It's easy! Well, easy for you, the author; it takes a bit of work for whoever is helping you. Here are the steps:
You send me the manuscript, or the first few chapters, and I'll look it over and let you know how much work I think it will need.
We discuss the various self-publishing platforms, and you decide which sounds the best for you.
We talk about price, and I give you an estimate of my fees. If we agree, I start to work!
First is copyediting. This is a two-way process, in that I share my edits with you until you're happy with the finished version.
If the book is mostly text, say a novel or textbook
